You Can Be A Victim Of Behavior Tracking

Ellen Nakishima writes in the Washington Post that several internet and broadband companies acknowledge using targeted advertising.  (This is where cookies are placed on your machine monitoring your surfing and then causing ads to be generated based on your surfing.)  without explicitly advising its customers it is doing so.

Google has begun using internet tracking technology to more precisely follow surfing habits.  A bi-partison inquiry has indicated over 30 internet companies might have gatered data to target customers.  This seems to me to be posturing for a stricter consumer privacy law.  Google has been using Double click (A company it acquired) to target advertising.

Have you noticed as you surf, pop-up ads appear?  This is part of the targeted advertising.  Yahoo has just announced it will allow customers to "opt out" of pop-up ads.  I think it would be more significant if they allowed you to opt in.  Now that would be a revolution.
